As a journalist, public relations professional and historian, David has been writing professionally for 45 years.  In the last 20 years he’s focused on the history of the Pacific Northwest.  His research and writing have broadened readers’ understanding of the culture, people and history of the Pacific Northwest in books, news articles and academic essays. 

Old Fashioned Revival

“Old Fashioned Revival,” published in the 2006 edition of Oregon Historical Quarterly, was a runner-up for the Joel Palmer Award, given to the best nonfiction about Oregon history.  David’s work shone new light on the growth of the protestant fundamentalist movement in the Northwest at mid-20th century.

Northwest Nisei in Tokyo

“Northwest Nisei in Tokyo,” published in Columbia Magazine in 2005, tells the story of a young Japanese American serving in the Army while his parents were trying to survive in a Japanese internment camp in Idaho.

Making Sense of Labor Strife

“Making Sense of Labor Strife” appeared in the Aberdeen Daily World in 2017 in conjunction with David’s appearance at the Aberdeen Museum of History.
